Top officials from Sri Lanka and Pakistan met to discuss enhanced collaboration against international drug networks, the Ministry of Public Security said. The meeting aimed to strengthen regional cooperation to prevent the entry of narcotics into Sri Lanka.
The discussion involved Sri Lanka’s Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala, and a Pakistani delegation including Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, General Faheem Ul Aziz.
“Both parties emphasized the importance of working collaboratively against international drug networks. The Pakistani side commended Sri Lanka’s government program to eradicate the drug menace,” the ministry said.
Sri Lanka has intensified efforts through large-scale law enforcement operations and strengthened regional diplomacy. Operations target street-level dealers and high-level traffickers, while rehabilitation programs and public awareness campaigns aim to reduce drug demand.
Sri Lanka’s strategic location near major trafficking routes increases vulnerability. Intelligence reports indicate narcotics smuggling from neighboring countries. By cooperating with India and Pakistan, Sri Lanka aims to establish a triple-lock system monitoring land, air, and sea routes, preventing the island from being an endpoint for international drug syndicates.
